A161 Gorget

A161 Gorget
Museum 19th Century Type Electroformed Gorget.
The system of electroforming was invented in Belgium in the 1830s and was quickly recognised by the Victoria & Albert Museum as a means of offering copies of historic items from their collection for sale as reproductions.
They engaged the firm of Elkingtons to undertake the project.
The items were moulded, electroformed in Copper and then Silver or Gold plated.
The system of course became widely copied.
This example is a Copper electroformed Silver plated copy of a 17th century German Gorget with an equestrian battle scene in high relief.
Excellent Condition and a Very Decorative Display Piece.
