Historic WW2 Australian Lithgow SMLE No1 Mk III* Military Rifles.
The Lithgow Arms Factory building was agreed in 1909 with completion and rifle production commencing in 1912. The two most prolific production periods being 1916-1919 and 1940-1944.
When Great Britain lost most of its small-arms at the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940, an urgent request was sent to Lithgow for supplies of SMLE rifles. This resulted in a large expansion in production and the opening of several “feeder” factories.
These Australian rifles are WW2 dated and bear full Australian markings on the metal parts and wooden stocks, most especially the butt markings.
They are in Superb Condition and played a very significant part in the salvation of Great Britain in WW2.
